Learn to Deviate

We get it, life is busy, but do yourself a favor every now and then and take back some control. There are a few ways to reframe stress into something positive and foster creative thinking at the same time and our aim is to start you down the right path...

Creating A 'Mindom'

- It's sounds childish, but kids are usually more honest than we are and honesty, especially with ourself, is vital to our own well-being. Begin working on an imaginary world. You can draw pictures, write about it, whatever, just fill it with all the stuff you like. Castles, trampolines, unicorns, funnel cakes, you name it. This allows your brain to work out problems as it does best, visually.

- Ever try going to sleep angry? Your mind will run with thoughts of revenge. That is a psyche without a driver. We have the power to put our emotions back on course but to do that, we need to jump in and steer. The mind has vast computing powers reserved for visual data processing and setting up an area where you can act out real life issues in your mind can give you back control. Try not to lock everything down in a specific place unless you really want to. Sometimes it's easier to remember certain destinations like an 'old oak' tree and leave the distance between it and the 'beach' blurry and open to change.

- Create some consciousness to occupy your 'Mindom'. They can be animals, creatures, civil or wild, anything you want,. They can communicate with you in any way you see fit.

- Whatever you do, make sure it's a place you FEEL comfortable in. You don't have to be ecstatic every time you imagine yourself there, you should never be fearful. This is a place where you figure out how to win.

Practice associating certain areas and characters with emotions and situations

- If you've got a pretty well rounded 'Mindom" formed, begin associating regular places like the oak tree as a place you can go to relax after an argument or the beach a place to get answers for difficult questions (receive those answers in a bottle washing ashore for example). Get creative.

-  Regularly interact with characters in your 'Mindom". Learn that they have different personalities that you can react to and work through problems from their perspective.

- If you don't believe in sychronicity in the real world, you should here. meaningful coincidences should happen regularly and they give the mind a chance to communicate itself to you if you're not finding the right answers. Come across a coin in the road, inspect it. Who's face is on it? Somebody you should call maybe? We don't know, go with your gut.

As the situation changes, adjust your 'Mindom'

Big Move? Graduating? Job Change? Reflect those big chages in your 'Mindom'. Adjust seasons as the year progresses and reintroduce new elements as you encounter new friends, enemies, mentors, coworkers. etc. Keep things fresh, let changes in the outer world reflect in the inner one.
